Pastor Ron Ward
This week, our HQ delegation, which visited Yekaterinburg and Moscow in Russia from August 27-September 8, returned safely. Dervilla and I arrived in Chicago on Tuesday and Spurgeon Lee returned to Korea. It was not an easy journey. There is no direct flight from Chicago to Moscow at this time. So, we flew from Chicago to Abu Dhabi (14 hours) and from Abu Dhabi to Moscow (six hours). A journey that took nine hours in the early 90s now takes about 30 hours with layovers. At the Moscow airport, we were detained due to security concerns, but released after a short time. When we attempted to use a credit card to pay an unexpected extra charge for a ticket revision, we found our cards were not accepted. There is no connection between the finance systems in Russia and the West. Still, we were grateful that the Moscow government allowed us entry into the city. And we could understand that security is tight due to the concern about drone attacks.
God blessed our journey in many ways, answering the prayers of his people all over the world. The conference in Yekaterinburg was abundantly blessed, as Missionary David Lee reported already. In Moscow, we enjoyed times of genuine fellowship with all of the house churches and the chapters of Kolomenskaya and Yakorniy. As we studied Jesus’ message to the churches in Revelation and considered his words seriously, the Holy Spirit worked among us. Significant progress was made toward resolving conflicts and renewing the love of Christ toward him and toward one another. All brothers and sisters in Moscow treated us with love and served with generous hearts. They served us with so much delicious food that we gained a few pounds. And they sent so many gifts back to Chicago that we had to buy another bag to carry them all. We thank God for the love of Christ in them and expressed through them. Please pray that the love of Christ may continue to grow and bear fruit and bring about a new era of fruitful ministry in Moscow and in Russia.
