(HQ) Pan African Cohort Completes Theology of Mission Course

By Joshua Hong, UBF Institute

We give thanks to God—the missionary God—who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. He richly blessed this course, in which eleven African pastors participated with dedication and zeal.

The course was conducted in a seminar format, requiring each participant to present assigned topics once or twice, culminating in a final presentation on “My Theology of Mission.” Core texts included Transforming Mission by David Bosch, Constants in Context by Stephen B. Bevans and Roger P. Schroeder, and African Christian Spirituality by Aylward Shorter.

The curriculum engaged key themes such as the Missio Dei, the Kingdom of God, the centrality of Christ, the role of the church, historical and contextual mission in Africa, and the significance of UBF mission on the continent. In the final session, participants synthesized these themes by articulating their own theology of mission. Several presentations demonstrated a level of depth and clarity suitable for academic conferences and missiological forums.

As an instructor, I witnessed clear growth among the participants—in character, theological depth, and commitment to God’s mission. Their development reflects not only intellectual engagement but also a deepening devotion to Christ and His redemptive work through the church.

Upcoming courses until July include Christ‑Centered Bible Study, Global Christianity (World Mission Congress 2026), and New Testament Study.
