(UGANDA) "Trust in Him and He Will Do This": 17th Uganda Healing Mission

"Trust in him, and he will do this." Psalm 37:5b

From February 16-19, we held the 17th UBF Medical Camp in the Bujuko area of Uganda, about 1.5 hours by bus from Kampala, the capital city. A total of 32 volunteers participated in the camp: 22 from South Korea, 1 from Russia, 1 from Portugal, 1 from the USA, 2 from Canada, 1 from Australia, and 4 from Uganda.

We previously held a medical camp in the same area two years ago. At that time, heavy rains made it difficult for patients to access treatment. Remembering that experience, we earnestly prayed for favorable weather this year, even though climate patterns in Uganda have become increasingly unpredictable. God taught us to trust in Him and to pray faithfully. The Lord graciously answered our prayers and granted us beautiful weather throughout the camp.

Over four days, we were able to treat 731 patients.

Each day, before beginning medical services, we held outreach programs twice, in the morning and afternoon. These included flute performances of gospel songs, Christian Contemporary Dance (CCD), skits depicting the story of God’s creation through Jesus’ resurrection, a short gospel message, and public health education.

This year’s healing mission became a beautiful and effective combination of evangelism and medical service. As we prayed, we saw God expand His kingdom through both physical healing and the proclamation of the gospel.

Among the many patients was a three-week-old baby girl who had an abscess on her right breast. Dr. Mun, a general surgeon, performed a successful drainage procedure under ultrasound guidance. In addition, one physician and two pediatricians treated a wide range of medical conditions. Three dentists worked diligently, providing advanced dental procedures that were not commonly available to many local patients. Their expertise greatly benefited the community.

Although our accommodations were very humble, we experienced the spirit of Jesus’ humility—He who became nothing for our sake. Through serving in simple conditions, we were reminded of His servant heart.

After the camp, we held a meaningful ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Makerere University College of Health Sciences in Uganda and Chosun University Medical School in Gwangju, South Korea. This partnership is a precious fruit of the UBF healing mission that has been faithfully carried out since 2007.

We praise the Lord who hears our prayers, strengthens His servants, and spreads His kingdom through medical missions.
