(SOUTH AFRICA) Who Will Go For Us?: National University Of Lesotho UBF Opening Academy

Praise be to God Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, for Lesotho UBF’s opening academy from August 15-16 2026. The purpose of the academy was to welcome students back from the long winter break and to reach out to new students on campus. We also thank God for our co-workers from Wits UBF, who came to Lesotho to support us during the academy. Their presence, fellowship, and support were a great blessing to us.
The academy began on Saturday morning, with the opening message delivered by Tsibela from Mark 6:6b–13. The title of the message was “He Began to Send the Twelve Out.” We were reminded of the calling Jesus gave His disciples to go out and preach the gospel of repentance. Jesus gave them strict instructions not to take anything for the journey except a staff. This demonstrated that their mission was a faith-based mission in which the disciples had to depend entirely on God rather than on themselves, their abilities, or their resources. The message also reminded us that the journey of serving God would not always be easy. The disciples would face challenges such as rejection and opposition. Therefore, Jesus instructed them to shake the dust off their feet as a testimony against those who rejected them and to continue with the mission God had given them.
After the message, we had lunch together. Following lunch, we divided ourselves into pairs of two, in obedience to the Word of God, and went out onto campus for one hour to invite students to Bible study. We thank God because He was with us. As a result, more than ten new students showed interest and came for group Bible studies.
We had group Bible studies from Isaiah 6:1–8, under the theme “Who Will Go for Us?” We witnessed how God was touching the hearts of the students through His Word. The passage was very powerful because it first revealed the greatness and holiness of God. As Isaiah encountered the holiness of God, he became deeply convicted of his own sinful nature and saw himself clearly before the Lord. He confessed, saying that he was a man of unclean lips. However, one of the seraphim flew to him with a live coal from the altar and touched his lips. Through this experience, Isaiah received cleansing. From this passage, we learned that when we sincerely confess our sins before God, He is faithful to cleanse and restore us.
Afterwards, we had supper together, and everyone was encouraged to write a personal testimony to share the following morning before the worship service began.
The testimony-sharing session was particularly meaningful because we were able to hear how God had been working in the lives of the students. Some shared about hidden sins and struggles, including doubting God's love because of past experiences, sexual immorality, and other sinful behaviours. At the same time, some students expressed a genuine desire and eagerness to obey God's calling, just as Isaiah responded, “Here am I. Send me!” It was truly beautiful and encouraging to see how the Word of God had touched the hearts of the young people and moved them toward repentance and a desire to follow Christ.
From there, we proceeded to worship service. We thank God for the presider, worship team, prayer servant, messenger, and all the congregants who participated. Everyone worshipped the Lord wholeheartedly. We especially thank God for Rapelang, who delivered a powerful message from Isaiah 6:1–8 entitled “Who Will Go for Us?”
In his message, Rapelang highlighted that before Isaiah encountered God, he was overwhelmed by fear and frustration. However, after experiencing God's mercy and cleansing, Isaiah became willing to offer himself to God. This reminds us that God does not wait for perfect people before calling them; rather, He calls forgiven and transformed people. When we deeply experience God's grace, we begin to care about what God cares about. We begin to see people through God's eyes and realise that they need to hear the gospel of salvation. As a result, we become willing to respond to God's calling by saying, “Here am I. Send me.”
Prayer Topics
1. Prayer for New Students
We pray for the commitment and spiritual growth of the new students who have joined the ministry. May God help them remain faithful and rooted in the ministry and raise them as disciples of Jesus Christ.
2. Prayer for Rapelang and His Family
We pray for God's provision for Rapelang so that he may be able to attend the Sunday worship services regularly, especially because he and his family will be travelling a considerable distance to reach the campus. We also pray that God will provide him with a suitable job near the campus or around Maseru, which will enable him to serve God and participate more actively in the ministry.
3. Prayer for the National University of Lesotho (NUL) UBF Ministry
We pray for our Sunday worship services, weekly Bible studies, and daily Bible reading meetings. May God use these activities to help every student grow spiritually, deepen their relationship with Christ, and become faithful disciples who can also participate in God's mission.
We thank God for the successful NUL UBF Opening Academy and for everything He did throughout the weekend. We pray that the seeds planted during the academy will continue to grow in the hearts of the students and that God will raise committed disciples who will respond to His calling with the words, “Here am I. Send me.”
May all glory and honour be given to God. Amen.
