Dear UBF family,
Missionary Sarah Barry was hospitalized due to her massive stroke affecting both side of her brain. Dr. Augustine Sohn in Chicago spent several hours with Mother Sarah Barry this morning (Oct 6) and spoke with her medical team, including three physicians.
He shared that she suffered a massive stroke affecting both sides of her brain. At this time, she remains largely unresponsive, does not recognize people, and is unable to speak. One of the most urgent concerns is her ability to swallow, but she was not alert enough to complete the swallowing test.
After speaking with the medical team and UBF care team, Dr. Sohn has decided to move Mother Barry to the hospital’s hospice unit, where she will receive comfort care. Visitors will have access to her 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dr. Sohn shared that she may not have much time remaining and that this seems to be the best option for her care.
Please pray that our loving Lord will surround Mother Barry with his peace, relieve her suffering, and hold her close in his tender care. May she be comforted by the presence and love of those around her. Please also pray for strength and wisdom for Dr. Sohn, the medical staff, and the UBF care team.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” — Psalm 23:1
With grateful hearts for her lifelong love, prayers, and service, let us entrust Mother Barry to our faithful Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
