On Sunday, September 13, 2026, I attended the baptism worship service in Cologne and witnessed the baptism of five young disciples. Pastor Youk, who delivered the baptismal message, was dressed as if for a wedding. When his six-year-old son asked if he was going to a wedding, he replied that he was attending a baptism, an event even more important than a wedding, only to be met with an unimpressed reaction from his son.
Following the message, these three young men and two young women were immersed in the cold water prepared in the church’s backyard, signifying the death of their old selves. They then rose again as new creations. A recent report on Free Churches in Germany indicates a sharp rise in the number of young people being baptized. One young man did not get baptized alongside the others because he had not yet finished his testimony, but the community is now praying together that he, too, might be baptized around October. Lord, may they live as new creations and disciples of Jesus, bearing abundant fruit in their lives!
