1. Sin and fear entered the world (1-1 ) A crafty serpent, by distorting God's word and planting doubt, tempted the woman to take and eat fruit which God had forbidden. The woman thought she would become like God. She led her husband to believe the same. But they did not become like God. Their eyes were opened to sin and its consequences. They experienced shame and fear when God came to look for them. Disobeying God only led to a broken relationship with him. 2. God's curse and promise (11-24) God gave the man an opportunity to come clean and take responsibility for what he had done. But the man passed blame on the woman. The woman, in turn, blamed the serpent. God cursed the man and woman for their sin. God punished the serpent which embodied the devil. In fact, God promised he would crush the devil's head. This foreshadows Jesus who came into the world to destroy the devil's work (1 Jn 3:8). No matter how we've sinned, God offers hope through Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. Thank you for hope in Jesus.
