Passage: Isaiah 2:1-5

The Mountain of the Lord(A)

2 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:(B)

2 In the last days(C)

the mountain(D) of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;(E)
it will be exalted(F) above the hills,
    and all nations will stream to it.(G)

3 Many peoples(H) will come and say,

“Come, let us go(I) up to the mountain(J) of the Lord,
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law(K) will go out from Zion,
    the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.(L)
4 He will judge(M) between the nations
    and will settle disputes(N) for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks.(O)
Nation will not take up sword against nation,(P)
    nor will they train for war anymore.

5 Come, descendants of Jacob,(Q)
    let us walk in the light(R) of the Lord.

2 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2 (A)It shall come to pass in the latter days
    that (B)the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
    and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and (C)all the nations shall flow to it,
3     and (D)many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
    and that we may walk in his paths.”
For (E)out of Zion shall go forth the law,[a]
    and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
    and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
(F)and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
    and their spears into pruning hooks;
(G)nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    neither shall they learn war anymore.

5 O house of Jacob,
    come, let us walk
    in (H)the light of the Lord.

The prophet Isaiah saw a vision of God’s word going out from Jerusalem, “the mountain of the Lord’s temple,” to people of many nations (1-2). This is a vision of the present worldwide gospel ministry as well as the coming kingdom of heaven.

God, enthroned in his holy dwelling place, calls out to people’s inner spiritual desire for him, and they respond by seeking to learn his ways (3). Learning is necessary because we have learned too much about sin and need to re-learn righteousness. We can learn from God by coming to Jesus through his word. Jesus is our true teacher because he is God who came down in human form so that we can understand him and follow him. When people learn God’s righteous ways, God’s kingdom comes on earth through them. This is happening today through our ministry!

We look forward to the day when the kingdom of heaven will fully arrive, resulting in true peace (4). Until then, our job is to walk in the light of the Lord that we have received (5).

Prayer: Father, thank you for the vision of all people coming to learn from you. Help me keep learning your ways and teaching them to others until your kingdom comes.

One Word: Learn and teach God’s ways
