Jesus Comforts His Disciples

14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.(A) You believe(B) in God[a];(C) believe also in me. Jesus the Way to the Father

Jesus planted faith in his confused and anxious disciples: “You believe in God; believe also in me.” Trust in Jesus is the only remedy to anxiety. They needed to trust Jesus and believe that his going away was for their good. He was going to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house. He would come back to take them to there. The promise of living forever with Jesus in his Father’s house also given to us. The Father’s house is our eternal home. It is the ultimate hope of God’s people. This promise is the power source to endure hardships, to walk in self-denial, and not to become too comfortable in the blessings. Jesus’ followers must not lose sight of this ultimate goal.

Jesus was going to the Father’s house by way of the cross and the resurrection. But Thomas did not know where Jesus was going and the way. Look at Jesus’ claim (6). Jesus is the only way to God, a new and living way opened for us through his death on the cross (Heb 10:20). Jesus is God’s way of salvation. He is the true and life-giving way. Only through faith in him we can come to the Father. In Jesus we come to know where we came from and where we are going back; in him we find eternal life, true freedom, and meaningful life on earth. In short, he is God Incarnate.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus, the only way to you. Help me to fully trust you, put my hope in your kingdom, and live as a witness to Jesus, the way.

One Word: Jesus is the only way to the Father
