'I AM IN THE FATHER; THE FATHER IS IN ME'

Passage: John 14:7-14

Key verse: 7

NIV

If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well.(A) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip(B) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.(C) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?(D) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.(E) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.(F) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes(G) in me will do the works I have been doing,(H) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask(I) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

1. "I am in the Father, the Father is in me." (7-11) We long to come to know God in a deep and personal way. But this seems impossible, because God is spirit. Jesus teaches here that we can come to know God when we come to know Jesus. How can we know the Father by knowing Jesus? Because Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus. Jesus is the physical manifestation of God Himself. We can come to know God the Father when we listen to Jesus' words, for that is God speaking. We can know the Father by Jesus' works. He came and lived and died so that we may know God the Father. 2. We will do even greater things than these (12-14) Because we know the Father through Jesus we also can do two things. We can do great works. Jesus promises when we do his work, we will do even greater things than he!. We can take the gospel to the ends of the earth to all people. Secondly, we can ask the Father for anything in Jesus' name, that God may be glorified in Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, help us to bring the world to Jesus, that they may know you.

One Word: Know Jesus; know God the Father
