DAUGHTER, YOUR FAITH HAS HEALED YOU

Passage: Luke 8:40-48

Key verse: 48

NIV

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(A)

40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(B) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(C) for twelve years,[a] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(D) and immediately her bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.

When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(E) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”

46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(F) I know that power has gone out from me.”(G)

47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(H) Go in peace.”(I)

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus's Daughter

40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd (A)welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 (B)And there came a man named Jairus, who was (C)a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus' feet, he implored him to come to his house, 42 for he had (D)an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

As Jesus went, the people (E)pressed around him. 43 And there was a woman (F)who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her (G)living on physicians,[a] she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched (H)the fringe of his garment, and (I)immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter[b] said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that (J)power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, (K)your faith has made you well; (L)go in peace.”

While Jesus was on his way to heal Jairus’s daughter, a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came and touched the edge of Jesus’ cloak and was immediately cured. When Jesus asked who had touched him, she came forward trembling at his feet. She may have felt unworthy, or guilty for touching Jesus while ceremonially unclean. Instead of rebuking or judging her, Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Jesus didn’t need to put her on the spot, but he wanted to show that, more than just a physical healer, he desires the intimacy of relationship. Like Jairus cared for her one and only daughter, Jesus loved the woman as his daughter. God loves each person very intimately as a loving father or mother. May we have the faith to approach and have such a beautiful relationship with our heavenly father and find restoration for our soul.

Prayer: Father, thank you for your love for me. May I grow in a deeper relationship with you and find healing and restoration.

One Word: A Father’s love.
