The Psalmist composed this hymn of praise to be read or sung in the assembly of God’s people, to help them ponder his goodness (1-2). The Psalm then lists the blessings God gives his people, from the least to the greatest. He provides for our physical needs (5). To make us know his power and goodness, he gives us possessions that we did not earn (6). He also gave us the precepts of his word, which are trustworthy for building our lives on and will never pass away (7-8). Last and greatest of all, he provided redemption for us through the new covenant, which was established when Jesus shed his blood for us (9). This covenant can never be broken.
If we also meditate on these things, then we will become wise and have good understanding (1
). Perhaps today is a good day to make our own list of the good things we remember about God.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the joy that we have just to remember and think about all you have done. Thank you for your provision for our lives until now and your salvation for us in Jesus.
One Word: Ponder and delight in God’s works.
