Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight(A)

46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,(B) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,(C) have mercy on me!”

48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

The blind man said, “Rabbi,(D) I want to see.”

52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”(E) Immediately he received his sight and followed(F) Jesus along the road.

46 (A)And they came to Jericho. And (B)as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, (C)a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was (D)Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many (E)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. Jesus and disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. They came to Jericho. Jesus and large crowds were leaving the city. When a blind man

heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

He may have heard about Jesus who heals the sick and the blind. So when Jesus was near him, the man shouted at Jesus with all he had. Coming to Jesus was not easy. There were large crowds surrounding Jesus and some even rebuked him and told him to be quiet. No matter what is blocking our path to Jesus, we need to call on Jesus at the top of our voice as this blind man did. Only when we come to Jesus, we are healed, restored and can be victorious!

Jesus called the blind man and asked him “what do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus said “Go, your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Only through our faith in him, Jesus can heal us. When we call on Jesus by faith, he is more than able to rescue us from all our life problems.

Prayer: Lord, in spite of many obstacles in our life, may we call on you and come to you.

One Word: Your faith has healed you.
