I WILL PURSUE BLAMELESSNESS

Passage: Psalms 101:1-8

Key verse: 2

NIV

Psalm 101
Of David. A psalm.

I will sing of your love(A) and justice;
    to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life(B)
    when will you come to me?

I will conduct the affairs(C) of my house
    with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
    on anything that is vile.(D)

I hate what faithless people do;(E)
    I will have no part in it.
The perverse of heart(F) shall be far from me;
    I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

Whoever slanders their neighbor(G) in secret,
    I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes(H) and a proud heart,
    I will not tolerate.

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless(I)
    will minister to me.

No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.

Every morning(J) I will put to silence
    all the wicked(K) in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer(L)
    from the city of the Lord.(M)

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of (A)steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will (B)ponder the way (C)that is blameless.
    Oh when will you (D)come to me?
I will (E)walk with (F)integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything (G)that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who (H)fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.
(I)A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will (J)know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor (K)secretly
    I will (L)destroy.
Whoever has a (M)haughty look and an (N)arrogant heart
    I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in (O)the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

No one who (P)practices deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall (Q)continue before my eyes.

(R)Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
(S)cutting off all (T)the evildoers
    from (U)the city of the Lord.

In this psalm David resolves to pursue what is right and blameless in his own house and in his kingdom. He sets the example for seeking God and what pleases God, both for his family and for his people. The basis for this is God’s loving and just rule and character (1).

Basically, David defines wickedness that he will not tolerate. He won’t look with approval on what is vile. He’ll have no part in what faithless people or the perverse in heart do. He’ll silence those who secretly slander. He won’t tolerate haughty eyes or proud hearts. He won’t let deceivers or liars near him. He’ll silence the wicked and cut off evildoers. But he will pursue faithfulness and blamelessness (integrity) along with those who do. They will dwell with him and minister to him (6).

As Christians, we should flee evil and pursue a righteous and holy, Christ-like life. We must guard our hearts, our homes and our church in pursuit of what pleases God. And whenever we fail, we must humbly confess it, repent and seek blamelessness anew.

Prayer: Lord, forgive my sins and my condoning sin in my home and relationships. Help me to pursue holiness and righteousness humbly, sincerely and earnestly. In Jesus’ name and for his sake I pray. Amen.

One Word: I will be careful to lead a Christ-like life
