Passage: Proverbs 3:1-10

Key verse: 5

NIV

Wisdom Bestows Well-Being

My son,(A) do not forget my teaching,(B)
    but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years(C)
    and bring you peace and prosperity.(D)

Let love and faithfulness(E) never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.(F)
Then you will win favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.(G)

Trust in the Lord(H) with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths(I) straight.[a](J)

Do not be wise in your own eyes;(K)
    fear the Lord(L) and shun evil.(M)
This will bring health to your body(N)
    and nourishment to your bones.(O)

Honor the Lord with your wealth,
    with the firstfruits(P) of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled(Q) to overflowing,
    and your vats will brim over with new wine.(R)

1. Let love and faithfulness never leave you (1-5) People want long life, prosperity and favor and good name from others. But how can we have them? Solomon shares the secret to be blessed: Do not forget but keep God's commands in your hearts. Let love and faithfulness never leave you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own wisdom. Acknowledge God in all your ways. In summary, 'Seek first God, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Mt 6:33). 2. Honor the Lord with your wealth (7-10) How can we be healthy? Solomon answers: Do not trust your own wisdom but fear the Lord and shun evil. How can we be rich? If we learn how to honor God with our wealth, not with leftovers but with our first fruits, and then God will fill our purses and our bank accounts to overflowing.

Prayer: Lord, help me fill my heart with love and faithfulness. Let me trust in you with all my heart and not my own wisdom. Let me honor God with my first fruits.

One Word: Acknowledge God in all your ways
