DON'T DESPISE GOD'S KINDNESS

Passage: Romans 2:1-5

Key verse: 4

NIV

God’s Righteous Judgment

You, therefore, have no excuse,(A) you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.(B) Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches(C) of his kindness,(D) forbearance(E) and patience,(F) not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?(G)

But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath(H), when his righteous judgment(I) will be revealed.

ESV

God's Righteous Judgment

Therefore you have (A)no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For (B)in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on (C)the riches of his kindness and (D)forbearance and (E)patience, (F)not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are (G)storing up (H)wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

1. No excuse in judging others (1-3) Now Paul turns to the law-keeping Jews who were judging the Gentiles as dogs. God chose the Jews and gave them the precious Word not to condemn the Gentiles with self-righteousness. They should preach the gospel to them as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The Word of God should not be used to judge, condemn and criticize others but to make myself repent before God and we should use God's word to save others. 2. Repent, don't store up wrath (4-5) We should not misunderstand the riches of God's kindness, forbearance, and patience when he does not punish the wicked people or our sins immediately. For God is not willing that anyone should perish but all may be saved. (2 Pet3:9) However, if we keep on in our stubbornness with an unrepentant heart, we are only storing up wrath against ourselves for the day of God's wrath which will arrive at any moment when he will judge severely.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for despising your forbearance while judging others. Help me be stricter with myself and kind to others, repenting moment by moment. Let me show your kindness, forbearance, and patience to others.

One Word: Do not judge others but repent!
