ALL NATIONS WILL SEE MY GLORY

Passage: Isaiah 66:17-24

Key verse: 19b

NIV

17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens,(A) following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs,(B) rats(C) and other unclean things—they will meet their end(D) together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.

18 “And I, because of what they have planned and done,(E) am about to come[a] and gather the people of all nations(F) and languages, and they will come and see my glory.(G)

19 “I will set a sign(H) among them, and I will send some of those who survive(I) to the nations—to Tarshish,(J) to the Libyans[b] and Lydians(K) (famous as archers), to Tubal(L) and Greece,(M) and to the distant islands(N) that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory.(O) They will proclaim my glory among the nations. 20 And they will bring(P) all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain(Q) in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,”(R) says the Lord. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels.(S) 21 And I will select some of them also to be priests(T) and Levites,” says the Lord.

22 “As the new heavens and the new earth(U) that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure.(V) 23 From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath(W) to another, all mankind will come and bow down(X) before me,” says the Lord. 24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies(Y) of those who rebelled(Z) against me; the worms(AA) that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched,(AB) and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

17 (A)“Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one in the midst, (B)eating pig's flesh and the abomination and mice, shall come to an end together, declares the Lord.

18 “For I know[a] their works and their thoughts, and the time is coming[b] (C)to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and shall see my glory, 19 and I will set a sign among them. And from them (D)I will send survivors to the nations, to (E)Tarshish, (F)Pul, and (G)Lud, who draw the bow, to (H)Tubal and (I)Javan, (J)to the coastlands far away, (K)that have not heard my fame or seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory among the nations. 20 (L)And they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations (M)as an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. 21 (N)And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.

22 “For as (O)the new heavens and the new earth
    that I make
shall remain before me, says the Lord,
so (P)shall your offspring and your name remain.
23 (Q)From new moon to new moon,
    and from Sabbath to Sabbath,
all flesh shall come to worship before me,
declares the Lord.

24 “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For (R)their worm shall not die, (S)their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

1. They will see my glory (17-19)

God does not want us to compromise with godless people. He is a God of mercy and a God of judgment. When men and women do abominable things, God will come with fire to execute judgment (16). He will come and gather people from every nation and race and tongue. He will reveal his glory to all mankind by his acts of judgment and by his saving grace and unfailing love.

2. Proclaim my glory among the nations (2

-24)

The remnant of God's people who see his glory and taste his forgiveness will be sent out to the ends of the earth to proclaim God's glory among the nations. The Risen Jesus sent his disciples to the ends of the earth to be witnesses to his gospel. In Isaiah 66 God promised that his people would bring the Gentile world to God as an offering. Paul saw his ministry as a fulfillment of this prophecy (Ro 15:16).

Prayer: Lord, help me to hold your great vision for world redemption in my heart and live as one of your holy people.

One Word: Proclaim his glory among the nations
