LIVING TOGETHER IN UNITY

Passage: Psalms 133:1-3

Key verse: 1

NIV

Psalm 133
A song of ascents. Of David.

How good and pleasant it is
    when God’s people live together(A) in unity!(B)

It is like precious oil poured on the head,(C)
    running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew(D) of Hermon(E)
    were falling on Mount Zion.(F)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(G)
    even life forevermore.(H)

When Brothers Dwell in Unity

A Song of (A)Ascents. Of David.

133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is
    when (B)brothers dwell in unity![a]
It is like the precious (C)oil on (D)the head,
    running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on (E)the collar of his robes!
It is like (F)the dew of (G)Hermon,
which falls on (H)the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord (I)has commanded the blessing,
    life forevermore.

1. Like precious anointing oil (1-2)

It is hard for brothers to live together in unity. Jesus prayed that his disciples might be one (Jn 17:11b,21). Christians cannot avoid community. We are commanded to love God and to love one another. When we obey, God pours out a great blessing on us. His blessing is like the anointing oil poured on Aaron the high priest. God's anointing brings peace and power in prayer. It equips his church for the priestly work of bringing the world to God through the preaching of the gospel (Ro 15:16).

2. Like the dew of Mount Hermon (3)

Mount Hermon was the tallest mountain around. The dew that fell on its heights morning by morning was abundant and refreshing. It represents the outpouring of God's Spirit and his blessing of life forevermore. Such dew falls on Mount Zion and the people of God when they worship him with one heart and one mind (Ac 1:14).

Prayer: Lord, help us to dwell together in unity.

One Word: Like anointing oil and dew
