A Song of (A)Ascents.130 Out of (B)the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
(C)Let your ears be attentive
to (D)the voice of my pleas for mercy!

O Lord, who could (F)stand?
4 But with you there is (G)forgiveness,
(H)that you may be feared.
5 I (I)wait for the Lord, (J)my soul waits,
and (K)in his word I hope;
6 my soul (L)waits for the Lord
more than (M)watchmen for (N)the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, (O)hope in the Lord!
For (P)with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
8 And he will (Q)redeem Israel
from all his iniquities.

1. Out of the depths (1-4)
There are times when we hit rock bottom. Psychologists call this depression, and they sometimes blame it on a 'chemical imbalance.' Perhaps such suffering comes from external events beyond our control; perhaps from our own failures or shortcomings. But whatever the cause, It is the time for the child of God to cry out to the Father for mercy and come to him as a repentant sinner. God always hears us when we ask for mercy, for he is eager to forgive the repentant sinner. His forgiveness brings healing to the heart and soul.
2. In his word I put my hope (5-8)
God's word of promise plants hope in people's hearts. Promises look to the future, and God's promises are as trustworthy as God's own faithful character. When my soul waits for the Lord and I put my hope in his word, he works in me mightily. With him is full redemption. He himself redeems his people from sin and despair.
Prayer: Lord, I cry to you from the depths, and my soul waits on you.
One Word: I put my hope in his word
