HIDE GOD'S WORD IN YOUR HEART

1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,(A)
    who walk(B) according to the law of the Lord.(C)
2 Blessed(D) are those who keep his statutes(E)

4 You have laid down precepts(J)
    that are to be fully obeyed.(K)
5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
    in obeying your decrees!(L)

7 I will praise you with an upright heart

8 I will obey your decrees;

1. The blessed person (1-3)

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is a devotional poem which is an acrostic (in Hebrew). It is focused on God who speaks and works through his word. Every verse contains some reference to the word of God. The first three verses are an introduction to the whole. They tell us that the blessed person is the one who seeks God with all his heart by obeying God's word.

2. A prayer for mercy (4-8)

Verses 4-8 are a prayer. The psalmist knows that God's laws are to be obeyed, but he is aware of his weakness and failure to do so. He longs to please God by a life of obedience and asks God's mercy and help.

3. How can a young man keep his way pure? (9-16)

The secret of keeping one's heart pure is to hide God's word in one's heart. We must seek God by obeying his word. We can delight in the word of God, for it is our wealth.

Prayer: Lord, help me to seek you by hiding your word in my heart to obey it.
