Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord

A Psalm.

98 Oh sing to the Lord (A)a new song,
    for he has done (B)marvelous things!
His (C)right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has (D)made known his salvation;
    he has (E)revealed his righteousness in (F)the sight of the nations.
He has (G)remembered his (H)steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All (I)the ends of the earth have seen
    (J)the salvation of our God.

(K)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    (L)break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the (M)sound of melody!
With (N)trumpets and the sound of (O)the horn
    (P)make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

(Q)Let the sea roar, and (R)all that fills it;
    (S)the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers (T)clap their hands;
    let (U)the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
    to (V)judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

First, 'all the earth has seen the salvation of our God' (1-3). We have a great reason to sing a new song of praise to God. He has done marvelous things, namely, by making his salvation known to all nations. He has done this through Jesus Christ, the righteousness of God. Jesus came as the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel, and is the hope of salvation for all people in all generations. Second, 'shout for joy to the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth' (4-9). Let us join all nature in thanking our God for his mighty work of salvation. We each have a testimony of thanksgiving to sing to the Lord, to make music to our Lord and King. His judgment does not bring terror to those who trust him. Rather, we sing and long for his appearing, knowing his judgment will be done in righteousness, and all people will be judged in equity.

Prayer: Father, thank you for your salvation for us in Jesus Christ. Let me praise and worship you today.

One Word: Sing to the Lord a new song
