The fruit of love, joy and peace

(Vancouver UBF)

I started 2010 with much hope holding Isaiah 43:18,19 as the key verse. But I often became helpless because of sheep’s response towards God’s word. Still, I give thanks to God who showed his mercy on Vancouver UBF ministry in 2010. God used us to pray for students in Vancouver and to teach the Bible to them. He provided us the things we needed.

Part 1. 2010 Annual Review

1. Bible study

We studied the gospel of Matthew and the book of Exodus in 2010. Through Matthew God gave us strength to seek first his kingdom by praying together and sharing the word of God with students. God also helped us learn the difference between the slaves under Pharaoh and the free people in God through Exodus. Through Bible study, God gave us mercy to serve a few students regularly.

2. Bible academy and conference

We held Bible academy four times on SFU campus in 2010 and our own small summer Bible conference. All of our coworkers took part in these events and several students came and listened to messages and testimonies at the Bible academies. A few students including, John (SFU 2) and Steven (SFU 3) and M. Sarah shared their testimonies. We also had a united worship service on the Thanksgiving weekend with M. Joshua Park’s family from Victoria UBF and M. John Kim’s family from UBC. We also had a graceful Christmas worship service with M. John Kim’s family and their sheep.

Last summer, John, Steven and M. Anna attended the Summer Bible Conference in Chicago UBF. God moved Steven through the marriage conference to consider deeply about his future marriage in God’s point of view. Through messages God helped him make a decision to stay in Vancouver after graduation and serve campus mission. After the conference, God blessed John to preside the Sunday worship service. God blessed Daniel (SFU 1) through visiting Korea. He learned faith and the ability to serve through Bible study, fellowship and summer Bible conference in Korea.

3. Special thanksgiving

God granted M. Hannah two students for one to one Bible study. She had been praying for sheep for a long time and finally God sent her students to study the Bible with. She experienced the fruit of patience through prayer. God gave Sarah a full time job as a dental assistant. God used M. Joseph Jung as a precious coworker for 1 year until he went back to Korea. He served SFU ministry with humble spirit. We miss him and pray that God may bless him and his family in Korea. In May M. John Kim and his family came to Vancouver to serve UBC. He is taking post doc program in UBC and actively serving one to one ministry. He brought a few students to the Christmas worship service. In 2010 two students whom we put hope a lot left this ministry which we are heartbroken about. Still, two students who once quit Bible study came back to us. Thank God!

Part 2. 2011 Vision and strategy

The key verse for Vancouver UBF in 2011 is Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” We are willing to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Personally I pray to bear the fruit of love, joy and peace. I have been focusing on the visible things. Now I turn my eyes on inner change to live a happy and fruitful life. In 2010, three students faithfully served God in this ministry as Jesus’ disciples. We pray that God may raise three new disciples of Jesus this year. We pray that we may serve 15 one to one and have our Bible academy regularly.

One word: the fruit of love, joy and peace.
