“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4)

It has been already one year since we began pioneering our ministry. As we prayed, in 2010, God provided us with a Bible house. This was a great hope for Colombia UBF. But we still did not have any sheep. We recognized how much we need to pray, so we held on to Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

I thank God for my daughter Harym who was born in March. Msn Caleb’s daughter Juhe was also born in July. We prayed earnestly that God may send each of us one student, just as he sent us Harym and Juhe.

Even when I had a daughter, I was attached to the problem of surviving and eating. When my baby was born, our financial situation became very difficult. My wife Msn Juanita was also having leg pains from a fall. I could not understand God’s will for us, because we had prayed for two years to have a baby. By God’s grace we had our baby, but we also had to face financial hardship. I worried because of this and so I could not see God’s vision.

But God gave me His word: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” So Msn Juanita and I started praying for our financial situation, and God gave us some money--only what we needed--each time we prayed.

God also gave us his grace and we could attend the Latin American Conference in Venezuela. Through this conference, we have a great vision for God’s work in Colombia. Some students started attending the Sunday service, and Msn Juanita began teaching the Bible to one sheep. Even though we were not able enough to serve the work of God, our faith was growing little by little through prayer.

The work of salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who directs the work of salvation. All we had to do was put this in His hands. But because of my lack of faith, I could not leave it in the hands of the Holy Spirit. Then only a few sheep came and we started losing our spiritual strength.

But God guides my ways. Through Bible Study with my shepherd in Korea on Skype, I had joy that comes from God’s word, and could restore my faith. Although life as a missionary is hard, God gives us not only the Bread, but also his Word. I pray we may restore our faith though his Word. Amen
