The CBF Vacation Bible School was held from June 18-22, 2012 with the theme “Peter’s Life of Faith.” Over the last five years, we studied Old Testament characters, such as Joshua, Daniel, Joseph, David, and Esther. It was the first time this year for us to study a New Testament Bible character and it covered the gospel. M. Birgit Pierce and Tim McEathron prepared the study material dividing Peter’s life into five sessions:

Luke 5:1-11 Jesus calls Peter
Matthew 16:13-20 Peter’s confession
Mark 14:27-31, 66-72 Peter’s denial
John 21:1-17 Peter’s restoration
Acts 2:14-24, 36-41 Peter becomes a shepherd

The messengers were Barnabas Kim, John Mederich, Joseph Wang, Peter Mun, and Grace Wolff. Their messages were short and to the point and well accepted by the children. Also the five Bible teachers were John Kuper, Marlene Lenthang, Faith Koh, John Mederich, and Grace Wolff. The teachers studied the Bible passage every day and wrote and shared their testimonies with M. Birgit who provided delicious breakfast at nine in the morning. Because they were all CBF alums, they connected with the children well and were welcomed.

Lunch was provided by the parents every day by M. Grace Koh, M. Sarah Magardician, Macia Lenthang, Marlene Rayas, M. Sarah Theresa Ahn, Annie Lee, M. Vivian Wolff, and Maria Horvath. A total of five messengers, five Bible teachers, and eight mothers participated. Thank God that everyone volunteered and served joyfully.

Some activities included making an origami ship, bird, and airplane. After the Bible school, all the children ate lunch together and played some sports in the park led by Paul Albright, Amanda Melzer, and Angelo Mendoza. The children liked this Bible school so much. One first grader said, “I love Bible School. I wish that we could have Bible School every day.”

This is a desirable model for the CBF ministry where teachers are the leaders and parents are the supporters. Also, this was an opportunity to raise future teachers and messengers for our growing children ministry.

May God grow our children as future spiritual leaders, second generation shepherds, and missionaries like Peter in their generation. May God’s kingdom come and God’s will be done through them. May God bless America and the world through them!
