"But if we walk in the Light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

Fellowship in the Light

Last Saturday, 7/28/2012, a Fellowship Leaders’ Development Workshop was held at the Chicago center. More than 40 fellowship leaders and other leaders attended this event. The day began with six group Bible studies on 1 John 1:1-10.

These were followed by a message given by Dr. Jim Rabchuk (Western Illinois University) which he titled, “Fellowship in the Light.”

Dr. Rabchuk stressed that we can have fellowship with the Father, the Son and one another when we come into the light, confess our sins, and repent. We cannot have real fellowship with anyone if we remain in the dark and deny or try to cover up our sinful behavior. True fellowship only comes when we step into the light by admitting that we are sinners and by repenting.

After the message we had one hour of beautiful pizza eating fellowship. The afternoon session consisted of four presentations. First, Damon Londrigan gave a presentation on the Moravian church which was perhaps the first protestant church having been formed in 1457, 60 years before Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg. The Moravian church, otherwise known as the Unitas Fratrum (Unity of Brethren) is built on a strong tradition of fellowship, unity, and prayer. Next, Matt Misurac gave a book review on “Life Together” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The book stresses the importance of Christians living together in true Christian fellowship and gives practical ways in which we can do this. The third presentation titled, “The Children’s Education,” was given by Missionary Isaac Choi. He stressed the importance of educating our children properly and focusing on three main points that have been built into the Children’s Bible Fellowship (CBF) ministry here in Chicago: 1) Bible study and worship service; 2) faith building programs; and 3) parents partnership in the education of children. Finally, Dr. Augustine Sohn gave us a brief overview of the elders’ role in the UBF ministry which was followed by a short Q&A session.

This was the third and final Fellowship Leaders Development Workshop held this summer. We thank God for blessing all three of them. Please pray for God’s continued blessing upon our leaders.
