WHEATON OFFERS UBF MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY

Written by P. Ron Ward

As of February of 2019, UBF HQ entered into a formal partnership with Wheaton College. Wheaton College is one of the most significant distinctively Christian liberal arts colleges in the USA.

It is located just about an hour from the Chicago UBF chapter. UBF now appears on the Wheaton College website as a ministry partner, along with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, the Navigators, and more than 20 other evangelical Christian organizations. It is a natural partnership, for Wheaton College and UBF share the same gospel faith, and passion for establishing loving Christian communities and spreading the gospel to all peoples of all nations before our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

Wheaton offers UBF members the opportunity to study some of the most relevant subjects that will enhance our ministry effectiveness. In particular, Wheaton is offering a special opportunity to obtain a certificate in cross cultural ministry. As we have identified time and again, this is one of the areas of study that are most needed by UBF members. Wheaton is offering a special 25% discount on tuition to those who join a 15-member cohort. The first cohort is forming this fall. Although it is filling up fast, there are still spots for qualified applicants. The deadline for registration is July 15.

Applicants will need to meet Wheaton’s academic qualifications for graduate school (which include having a bachelor’s degree). Applicants will also need approval from their chapter leader and UBF HQ. The certificate in cross cultural ministry requires completion of three courses (a total of ten credit hours) at the graduate level: Intercultural Communication, Contextualization, and Theological Foundations. The cohort members will need to meet on campus, all together, for a couple of days at the beginning of the semester. But after that, the coursework will be done online in a distance learning format, with each course taking about ten weeks to complete.

In order to support this partnership, the NA Elders have agreed to provide scholarships for North American UBF members on a limited basis. The aim is to make this opportunity affordable for those who would benefit from it most.
