That All Of Them May Be One

"...that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me." (Jn 17:21)

"For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." (1Co 2:2)

We have many expectations and hopes as we start the new year. We hope for the healthy life and happiness of our families. We hope for the growth of our ministries. We hope for financial stability. We hope our children may do well at school. These hopes are good because humans cannot live without hope. However, as believers of Jesus, we must first think about what Jesus hopes for us. What does Jesus hope for us? As we can find in Jesus' prayer in John 17, he hopes that we may become one with God's love. Jesus wanted our oneness so much and he went before God and prayed that we may be one. I believe, still today, that Jesus is praying at the right hand of God for the same prayer topic that we may be one.

God does his work by the power of his Spirit. Yet the important point is whether we are a community that God uses or not. If God does not want to work through us we have absolutely no hope. What community does God use? God uses a community that is one by God's love. Think about the early church in the 1st century. The believers listened to the apostles and simply obeyed. They loved God and loved one another with all their hearts to the point that no one claimed their own possession as their own, but shared everything they had (Ac 4:32). God used them. God gave them new hearts and a new passion for the gospel. Through them God did miraculous works and saved many lives. It is good that we work hard doing many things. However, that we dearly love one another and become one is more important. It is not just by human love but by the love of God that we can become one to the point that we can give our lives for one another.

However, oneness itself cannot be the end in itself. What should we do as a community that is one by the love of God? It is to believe in the power of the gospel and preach it. In this world, there is no power which is more powerful than that of the gospel. A nuclear bomb is powerful but it cannot change the inner hearts of people. It cannot raise the dead. There is no greater power than the power to raise those who are dead in their transgressions. The gospel of Jesus has such a power. 

The apostle Paul, a master of Jewish law and Greek philosophy, was an outstanding intellectual of his time. Compared with his vast knowledge, the gospel of Jesus' death and resurrection seemed trivial. It appeared simple and foolish. But after he realized the depth and power of the gospel, he declared that all his knowledge was nothing compared to the gospel. Because of the surpassing value of the gospel, he regarded all that he had so cherished as garbage (Php 3:8). He resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified. There is a creation power in the gospel, to create anew. It has the power to challenge sinners to repent and enable them to be born again. Still now as ever in the 21st century, the only hope for mankind is the gospel of God.

In this new year, may God's grace and love be abundant in your family and ministries. May the love of God flow from above down onto each one of you, and through you, to your family members, co-workers, and neighbours. Money does not make us happy. Neither does the success of ministry. Only Jesus and his gospel makes us truly happy. Knowing Jesus is life and joy. Knowing him and becoming like him is the best imaginable blessing. In this year, may we love Jesus, and our brothers and sisters. Out of love for God, may we devote ourselves to teaching campus students the Bible. May God help us to engage in 5,000 weekly one to one battles in North America. May God grant us a spiritual revival once again and may God be glorified.

Discurso de Año Nuevo del Director General

Para Que Todos Sean Uno

“…para que todos sean uno; como tú, oh Padre, en mí, y yo en ti, que también ellos sean uno en nosotros; para que el mundo crea que tú me enviaste.” (Jn 17:21)

“Pues me propuse no saber entre vosotros cosa alguna sino a Jesucristo, y a éste crucificado.” Tenemos muchas expectativas y esperanzas al comenzar el nuevo año. Esperamos la vida saludable y la felicidad de nuestras familias. Esperamos el crecimiento de nuestros ministerios. Esperamos la estabilidad financiera. Esperamos que a nuestros hijos les vaya bien en la escuela. Estas esperanzas son buenas porque los humanos no pueden vivir sin esperanza. Sin embargo, como creyentes de Jesús, primero debemos pensar en lo que Jesús espera para nosotros. ¿Qué espera Jesús para nosotros? Como podemos ver en la oración de Jesús en Juan 17, él espera que podamos ser uno con el amor de Dios.

Jesús quería tanto nuestra unidad y se presentó ante Dios y oró para que pudiéramos ser uno. Creo que aún hoy, Jesús está orando a la diestra de Dios por el mismo tema de oración de que podamos ser uno. Dios hace su obra por el poder de su Espíritu. Sin embargo, el punto importante es si somos una comunidad que Dios usa o no. Si Dios no quiere trabajar a través de nosotros, no tenemos ninguna esperanza. ¿Qué comunidad usa Dios? Dios usa una comunidad que es unida por el amor de Dios. Piensa en la iglesia primitiva en el siglo primero. Los creyentes escucharon a los apóstoles y simplemente obedecieron. Amaron a Dios y se amaron los unos a los otros con todo su corazón hasta el punto de que nadie reclamó su posesión como propia, sino que compartían todo lo que tenían (Hch 4:32). Dios los usó. Dios les dio nuevos corazones y una nueva pasión por el evangelio. A través de ellos, Dios hizo obras milagrosas y salvó muchas vidas. Es bueno que trabajemos duro haciendo muchas cosas. Sin embargo, que nos amemos profundamente y nos hagamos uno es más importante. No es solo por el amor humano, sino por el amor de Dios que podemos llegar a ser uno hasta el punto de que podemos dar nuestras vidas el uno por el otro.

Sin embargo, la unidad en sí misma no puede ser el fin en sí misma. ¿Como comunidad que es unida por el amor de Dios, qué debemos hacer? Es creer en el poder del evangelio y predicarlo. En este mundo, no hay poder más poderoso que el del evangelio. Una bomba nuclear es poderosa pero no puede cambiar los corazones internos de las personas. No puede resucitar a los muertos. No hay mayor poder que el poder para levantar a aquellos que están muertos en sus transgresiones. El evangelio de Jesús tiene tal poder.

El apóstol Pablo, un maestro de la ley judía y la filosofía griega, fue un intelectual destacado de su tiempo. Comparado con su vasto conocimiento, el evangelio de la muerte y resurrección de Jesús parecía trivial. Parecía simple y tonto. Pero después de darse cuenta de la profundidad y el poder del evangelio, declaró que todo su conocimiento no era nada comparado con el evangelio. Debido al valor superior del evangelio, consideró como basura todo lo que había apreciado (Php 3: 8). Resolvió no saber nada, excepto a Jesucristo y a él crucificado. Hay un poder de creación en el evangelio, para crear de nuevo. Tiene el poder de desafiar a los pecadores para que se arrepientan y de permitirlos nacer de nuevo. Aún ahora como siempre en el siglo XXI, la única esperanza para la humanidad es el evangelio de Dios.

En este nuevo año, que la gracia y el amor de Dios sean abundantes en su familia y en sus ministerios. Que el amor de Dios fluya desde arriba sobre cada uno de ustedes y, a través de ustedes, a los miembros de su familia, los compañeros de trabajo y los vecinos. El dinero no nos hace felices. Tampoco el éxito del ministerio. Solo Jesús y su evangelio nos hacen verdaderamente felices. Conocer a Jesús es vida y alegría. Conocerlo y volvernos como él es la mejor bendición imaginable. En este año, que amemos a Jesús y a nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Por amor a Dios, que nos dediquemos a enseñar la

Biblia a los estudiantes del campus. Que Dios nos ayude a participar en 5,000 batallas uno a uno por semana en América del Norte. Que Dios nos conceda un avivamiento espiritual una vez más y que Dios sea glorificado.

Que Dios los bendiga y esté con ustedes.

                                                                                                    그들도 다 하나가 되어

"아버지께서 내 안에, 내가 아버지 안에 있는 것같이 그들도 다 하나가 되어 우리 안에 있게 하사 세상으로 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 믿게 하옵소서“(요 17:21)

" 내가 너희 중에서 예수 그리스도와 그의 십자가에 못 박히신 것 외에는 아무것도 알지 아니하기로 작정하였음이라“(고전 2:2)

새해를 시작하면서 우리는 많은 기대와 희망을 가져봅니다. 우리는 가족의 건강과 행복을 희망합니다. 역사의 성장을 희망합니다. 경제적인 안정을 희망합니다. 우리는 우리 자녀들이 학교 공부를 잘 하기를 바랍니다. 사람은 희망이 없이는 살 수 없기에 이러한 희망을 갖는 것은 좋은 일입니다. 그러나 우리는 예수님을 믿는 사람들로서 먼저 우리에 대한 예수님의 소망이 무엇인지를 생각해보아야 합니다. 우리에 대한 예수님의 소망이 무엇입니까? 그것은 요한복음 17장, 예수님의 기도에서 찾아 볼 수 있듯이 우리가 하나님의 사랑으로 하나가 되는 것입니다. 예수님은 우리의 하나 됨을 너무나 간절히 원하셔서 그 기도제목을 갖고 하나님께 나아가 기도하셨습니다. 예수님은 지금도 하나님 보좌 우편에서 우리가 하나 되도록 기도하고 계심을 믿습니다.

하나님은 당신의 일을 성령을 통해 친히 하십니다. 그러므로 중요한 점은 우리 공동체가 하나님이 쓰실 만한 공동체인가 아닌가 하는 점입니다. 하나님이 우리 모임을 통해 일하기 원하지 않으신다면 우리에게는 아무런 희망이 없습니다. 하나님은 어떤 공동체를 쓰십니까? 하나님의 사랑으로 하나 된 공동체를 쓰십니다. 1세기의 초대교회를 생각해 보십시오. 무리들은 사도들의 가르침을 받아 단순히 순종했습니다. 그들은 하나님을 사랑했고 이웃을 사랑했습니다. 이웃을 온 마음으로 사랑하여 누구든지 자기 소유를 자기 것이라고 주장하지 않고 다른 사람들과 나눌 정도였습니다(행4:32). 하나님께서 그들을 쓰셨습니다. 하나님은 그들에게 새로운 마음을 주시고 복음에 대한 열정을 주셨습니다. 하나님은 그들을 통해 기이한 일들을 행하시고 많은 생명을 구원하셨습니다. 우리가 부지런히 많은 일을 하는 것은 좋습니다. 그러나 우리가 서로 깊이 사랑하며 하나가 되는 것이 더욱 중요합니다. 인간적인 사랑이 아니라 하나님의 사랑으로 하나 되어 우리의 목숨을 다른 형제를 위해 줄 수 있을 정도까지 사랑하는 것이 중요합니다.

물론, 하나 됨 그 자체가 궁극적인 목적은 아닙니다. 우리가 하나님의 사랑으로 하나 되어 할 일이 있습니다. 그것은 바로 우리가 복음의 능력을 믿고 전파하는 것입니다. 이 세상에 복음보다 더 강력한 힘은 없습니다. 핵폭탄이 강력하지만 사람의 내면을 변화시키는 능력은 없습니다. 죽은 자를 일으키는 힘은 없습니다. 죄로 죽어있는 영혼들을 일으켜 살리는 힘보다 더 강력한 힘은 없습니다. 그런데 복음에는 그러한 능력이 있습니다. 사도 바울은 유대 율법과 헬라 철학에 능통한 당대의 지성인이었습니다. 그의 방대한 지식에 비교해볼 때 예수님의 죽으심과 부활의 복음은 사소해 보였습니다. 너무나 단순하고 어리석게 보였습니다. 그러나 바울이 복음의 깊이와 능력을 알게 되었을 때 그는 자기가 갖고 있던 모든 지식은 복음에 비하면 아무 것도 아니라고 증거했습니다. 복음의 뛰어난 가치로 인해 그는 그가 과거에 그토록 귀하게 여겼던 모든 것들을 배설물로 취급하게 되었습니다(빌3:8). 그는 십자가에 달리신 예수 그리스도만 알기로 작정했습니다. 복음에는 창조의 능력이 있습니다. 복음에는 죄인들의 마음을 책망하여 회개하게 하는 능력이 있습니다. 거듭나게 하는 능력이 있습니다. 과거에나 21세기나 인류의 유일한 희망은 복음입니다.

새해에 주님의 은혜와 사랑이 여러분의 가정과 사역 가운데 충만하시기를 기원합니다. 하나님의 사랑이 위로부터 흘러나와 여러분을 통하여 가정과 동역자들과 이웃들에게 넘쳐 흘러가기를 기도합니다. 돈이 우리를 행복하게 하지 않습니다. 사역의 성공이 우리를 행복하게 하는 것도 아닙니다. 예수님과 그의 복음이 우리를 진실로 행복하게 합니다. 예수님을 아는 것이 생명이요 기쁨입니다. 그를 알고 그를 닮아가는 것이 인간이 상상할 수 있는 최고의 축복입니다. 새해에 우리가 예수님을 사랑하고 형제 자매들을 뜨겁게 사랑하기를 기도합니다.  하나님의 사랑에 강권되어 캠퍼스 양들에게 성경을 부지런히 가르치는 한 해가 되기를 기도합니다. 북미 UBF 에서 매주 5,000 팀 일대일 전투를 감당하기를 기도합니다. 전 세계 각 지부가 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 주일 예배 두 배수의 일대일에 도전할 수 있기를 기도합니다. 주님께서 우리 가운데 다시 한 번 영적 부흥을 일으켜주시고 영광 받으시길 기도합니다.

주님께서 함께 하시고 축복하시길 기원하며.
