2017 CU UBF YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONFERENCE (MEXICO CITY)

In the midst of Mexico's 2 Earthquakes, UBF CU, Mexico city held a "conferencia juvenil (Young People’s Conference).” There were heavy casualties in Puebla, Mexico City and nearby areas where our missionaries reside. In the midst of such disastrous accidents, we have no news of casualties among our co-workers, their families and their flock of God.

The floor of the school of M. Josue Bae’s daughter (Puebla) was wide open and debris fell, but she came home safely. M. Bernabe Choi (IPN) has been in 18th floor and he felt like dying by the severe shakes of the building. M. Isaac Park reported no severe damages in Iztacala. M. Abraham Hwang said, 'this earthquake seemed to be much stronger than that of 32 years ago due to the four directions shakings (Up and down, right and left).

In spite of closing of all schools, UBF CU, Mexico City held a "Conferencia Juvenil,” as M. Sarah Hwang had more than 10 one to one Bible studies during the week of earthquakes, 32 years ago. God sent many new students to this Juvenile Conference, though many students went to their home town. We praise God for their great spirit. Let's pray that God may bless Mexico to return to God and be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

THREE EARTHQUAKES IN MEXICO CITY AND ITS AREAS

In recent weeks, Mexico has been struck by 3 earthquakes of high magnitude. This took place within the short span of 2 weeks. Mexico was struck by the first earthquake on September 7th with a magnitude of 8.1, the second on September 19th with a magnitude of 7.1 and the third on September 23rd with a magnitude of 6.1. The most affected regions are Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Morelos.

While each earthquake was frightening and devastating to the people and the cities affected, the earthquake that hit on September 19th brought bitter memories to the Mexican people. 32 years ago, on the same day (Sept 19, 1985), there had been a terrible earthquake that had taken many lives. It was very hard for many Mexicans to relive this experience again this year. As a result of the events in recent weeks, cities have been filled with destruction, rubble, the loss of life and uncertainty. Many houses and buildings collapsed, including one school where young children were inside.

During this time, the people have shown a strong sense of unity and have been working hard to carry out rescue efforts. Neighboring regions have also shown support by sending first aid, food and water. Other countries are supporting as well. May we pray for those affected to regain a sense of peace during a difficult time of loss. May the God of all comfort fill their hearts, help them seek Him and continue to show a strong bond of love and unity.

* Shps. Socorro belongs to Truman College ministry in Chicago UBF as a primary school teacher. Her article, said above, ppt and pptx, attached, were presented, after last Sunday worship service (Sept. 24th); it seems to let her prepare for the report, because Shp. Gustavo and his wife Amalia Islas (Coordinator of Truman College ministry) are from CU UBF, Mexico City, and they have family members living in Mexico City, who were impacted by the earthquakes, but thank God that they are well. Socorro herself had been born in Chicago, but her parents are Mexicans, and so she had been raised speaking Spanish with them as a child. In particular, her husband, Hugo Dias, also is from CU UBF, and most of all, he had been raised as a disciple of Jesus by Shps. Amalia Islas.
