On October 2, Chicago UBF campus ministries and HBF joined together for a united Friday Leaders Meeting to pray for the new fall ministry and HBF. The event began with praise music led  by HBF.  Next, Jim Rarick gave a personal testimony on Luke 4:1-14. By faith, he remained in Chicago, though he had a tempting offer in California. God blessed his decision to remain in Chicago to serve God’s work and expanded the company to preserve his job.  

HBF. Shepherd Francis Choi gave a short report on HBF and shared a video HBF’s core values. HBF is studying the book of Daniel to help their members to have a clear identity as God’s people. Also, Francis is preparing to go to Uganda as a missionary, and HBF members are planning a summer missions trip to Uganda. Moreover, second generation missionary Moses Lee is serving as an intern for HBF for one year.  Finally, Christine Mun led an activity in which the prayer topics for 31 high school students were distributed, and then our coworkers wrote encouraging letters and prayers to the HBF members.

CPS teachers. Dr. Dennis Miller led the next session in which we prayed for Chicago public school teachers. Shepherd Dennis reported on the first UBF teachers prayer meeting that was held on August 29, at Chicago UBF, with the prayer topic to be Good Samaritans. He concluded by praying for 26 teachers in Chicago UBF, calling their names one by one.

Freshmen. Next, we heard four testimonies by new freshmen: Miriam Pierce (Loyola), Ine Suh (UIC), Lina Chung (Loyola), and Sam Lee (Northwestern), who shared their key verses and prayer topics. Then, Dr. Helen Rarick prayed for them one by one.

Community colleges. Shepherd Tom and Anna Guihan gave a report on God’s work on Truman College. They have many growing student disciples and are praying for a Bible House. We concluded by having a moment of silent prayer for all the community college ministries: Truman, Oakton, Moraine Valley, and Harper College.

Universities. Steve Stasinos began this portion of the meeting by sharing the statistic that after the age of 25, only 10% of the population will change their faith. First, we heard a report on work of God in downtown campuses, especially at Columbia College. Then we heard a report about the UIC ministry by Ethalle Thompson. At UIC, leaders and students have started several new student group Bible studies. For example, Ethalle leads a group which has 7 students attending each week. From these group Bible studies, students are invited to one to one Bible study. This session was concluded with prayer for university ministries by Kristin Weed.

Pastor Ron Ward gave the closing prayer topics to pray for all the universities, high schools, and community colleges that many disciples of Jesus be raised. He also gave the prayer topic to raise one shepherd for each campus in America so that God’s kingdom may come.
