On June 30-July 3, the 2nd Gen education conference was held. The participants were Timothy Safos (NY, USA), Esther Yun (Atlanta, USA), J* Kim (Q), Vision Kim (Zambia), James Park (Washington, USA), Mary So (Moscow, Russia), Paul Park (Mexico), Nayoung Lee (Zimbabwe), Becky Yoon (Nigeria), Samuel Yoo (Uganda) and Grace Yoo (Uganda).

On the morning of the first and second days, there was a lecture on UBF spirit, ministry, and vision. Through this lecture the 2nd Gens learned what they should inherit and further develop as main successors of UBF in the next generation.

In the afternoon, the 2nd Gens visited Yanghwajin cemetery. Due to the MERS virus, the inside hall was temporarily closed and the video lecture could not be held. Instead, the 2nd Gens heard a much more detailed explanation on how each missionary served mission work in Korea in front of the monument of each missionary. Through this visit, the 2nd Gens were able to understand why their parents left Korea to live as missionaries in a foreign country. They also visited Yuksam (63rd Building) and enjoyed the view of Seoul on the top floor and learned the God of creation through visiting an aquarium there. And through visiting the Kyoungbok Palace they learned about Korean history and culture and through visiting SNU campus they looked around at the UBF club room and prayed for 1,000 professor shepherds. They heard the sounds of Korean musical instruments at SNU club.

On the third day, the 2nd Gens visited Kwangju. They visited Kwangju UBF and watched a video on the letters of Sarah Barry and UBF history. Afterwards, they visited the UBF History Museum and learned how the UBF movement first began and the spirit of the early pioneers. They visited Chosun University and heard from the driver who graduated from the university about how the campus has developed. In the evening, the 2nd Gens shared their prepared 3-page life testimonies. As always, the life testimony sharing time was so graceful. They came to know each other’s prayer topics and began to pray for each other. After the testimony sharing, seniors (Tim & Esther) studied the Bible with Shs. Helen Kim. Afterwards, they watched a movie that dealt with the sea battle against the North Korean navy during the World Cup games.

On the last day, the 2nd Gens visited Aeyangwon Hospital Museum & Martyr Son Yang Won Museum. The elder in Aeyangwon Hospital Museum had a lecture on how the hospital for the lepers began and how missionaries loved and sacrificially served the Korean lepers. Through this lecture the 2nd Gens could learn their sacrificial lives and genuine love that came from Jesus’ love. They also learned the love of Pastor Son who adopted the murderer of his own two sons out of God’s love towards his own enemies.

Shs. Helen Kim accompanied the 2nd Gens throughout the program and took care of them like a mother. Through this educational program the 2nd Gens became life-long friends. I pray that God may use them as future mainstream coworkers of UBF ministry.

In Christ,
