2015 Korea UBF National Spring Staff Conference Report

On April 13-15 Korea UBF held its spring national staff conference at Chunan Sangnok resort in Korea. Its theme was “Rivers of Living Water Will Flow From”, and the number of attendees was 80 including 2 missionaries.

We had a Bible study divided in groups, based on three lectures (1) John 6:1-21 (Jesus fed 5000 with five loaves and two fish), (2).John 6:22-71 (Jesus, the bread of life) and (3) John 7:14-52 ( Rivers of living water will flow). By this we could prepare John's gospel preaching materials for spring semester.

On the first night a special lecture entitled, "Theology of Neighborhood" was given by Professor Seungku Lee (Hap-dong Theological Seminary). Through this we learned how to discern about right Biblical theology based on the Bible since there are many other false theologies of neighbors around us that seem to be similar, but are not.

He stressed that the Biblical orthodoxy is our aim for a true theology of neighbor in accordance with Biblical truth, and it also should be put into practice with love in our lives.

On the second day in the afternoon we had an athletic competition with soccer, baseball, football and tennis having joyful fellowship with each other.

In the evening there were five campus ministry reports. When Sh. Stephan Kim (Jinju) went fishing twice a day in the morning and afternoon, kindly approaching sheep with something to eat, he could bring many sheep to the Lord.

Sh. Abraham Park (Gachun) had to climb up to the campus for fishing every day as if he was going up to a mountain since their Bible club room moved to the highest place on the campus. But he realized God received his campus fishing as five loaves and two fish and his body became stronger than before and could also see his sheep feeding new sheep.

When Sh. Joseph Noh (Woolsan), in order to get new sheep, marched around the campus for seven weeks as did the Israelites at the City of Jericho, he could experience God's miracle that brought ten faithful sheep to his Bible study.

Sh. Spurgeon Lee attempts to campus ministry with a new paradigm. By tutoring lessen of E-math to the students he could make a good relationship with new students and he invited them not to one to one but to the Bible cafe. After that he lead them naturally to Bible club with homecoming day meeting in order to introduce them to their senior students.

Sh. Seungwon Kim (Wonchun) had been suffering because he was serving two sheep who had many problems. But recently he was greatly encouraged by the two sheep who confessed to him "In our lives the best fortune is to meet you as our best mentor”.  By this he could gain clear confidence, saying, “I am the best mentor who can give true happiness in Jesus to my sheep. Then he could bring four new students to SWS.

These were followed by world mission report night.

First Dr. John Jun presented CME work and his CME prayer topics for Asia. He is going to visit Asia regional UBF chapters such as Philippines, Brunei, Hong-kong, Mongolia and Japan to serve the missionaries and native shepherds over there through the word of Ephesians and Galatians, from April 25 to June28. He prays that God may give him necessary health and fill him with the power of the Holy Spirit during this journey.

After that we had united prayer, divided into five by five for 2016 world mission report and missionary conference which will be held in Korea. We earnestly prayed that God may enable us to prepare the best program for our missionaries and native shepherds who will be attending the meetings.

At the end, Sh. David Kim (Korea UBF director) encouraged us to be filled with the rivers of living water in order to serve campus souls full of happiness and with overcoming spirit challenging all the difficulties as well. Especially, he stressed that we need to continue to pray for 2016 world mission report and missionary conference in Korea.
