  He Has Risen!

Matthew 28:1-20

Key Verse 28:7

1. Verse 1 mentions about: 1) 'the' tomb; and 2) two Mary's. Which tomb is it? (Matthew 27:57-61) Who are the two Mary's? (Mark 16:1,9; Luke 8:2; 24:10; Matthew 20:20-24) Why did they come to the tomb that early? (Mark 16:1,2)

2. Verses 2-3 describe "the stone". Who put it there? Why? (27:63-64) Compare what men did in Matthew 27:62-66 with what the Lord did in 28:2. What does this comparison show us about: 1) the Lord; and 2) the resurrection of the dead?

3. Think about the way the guards responded to the work of God through the angel in verse 4. Who are "the guards"? (27:65-66; 28:11-15) What does their response show us about them?

4. Verses 5-7 describe the angel's message of resurrection, which he shared with the women. What do the following statements tell us about the gospel of Jesus? 1) [who] was crucified; 2) He is not here; 3) he has risen just as he said; 4) Come and see where he lay; 5) Go quickly and tell his disciples; 6) He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.; and 7) Now I have told you!

5. How did the women respond to the angel's message? (8) Verse 9 says that suddenly they met [the risen] Jesus. How do you like the way Jesus greeted them? What does Jesus' greetings show us about the way the Risen Lord relates to this children? Why did they "clasp" Jesus' feet? Yet what did Jesus asked them to do?

6. Verses 11-15 describe some people trying to thwart the truth of Jesus' resurrection. How close did the following people come to the truth? 1) the chief priests and the elders; 2) the soldiers/guards; and 3) governor (27:65). Yet what did they do with the truth? Why?

7. Verses 16-20 describe the first "resurrection conference" in one of the mountains in Galilee where Jesus issued the world mission command. What do the following statements teach us about the way to serve the command? 1) All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me; 2) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations; 3) baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; 4) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you; and 5) And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
