YOU WILL BE A BLESSING

Genesis 11:27-12:9
Key Verse: 12:2

“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.”

Read V11:27-32. Describe Abram’s family What was his problem? Where was his original home? To where did he move? (Acts 7:2-4)

Read V1-3. What did God say to Abram when he called him out? Think about what was involved in leaving; going to an unknown place. Why was it necessary for him to leave his past life in order to receive God’s blessing?

Read V1-3 again. What did God promise Abram? How did his present condition make this a difficult promise to believe? What does it mean that “You will be a blessing.”? How can we become a blessing to others?

Read V4-5. What was Abram’s response? What do the words, “as the Lord had told him” suggest about Abram’s faith? How old was he when he obeyed God’s calling?

Read V6-9. Where did Abram and his family go? When Abram arrived in Canaan what did he find? What additional promise did God make? What was Abram’s response? What might be the significance of building an altar?
