I AM THE GOD OF BETHEL

Genesis 30:25-31:55

Key Verse 31:13

“I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.”

Read V25-43. Why did Jacob want to leave Paddan Aram? Why did Laban want him to remain? What were the terms of the new contract? How did Laban try to take advantage of Jacob? What did Jacob do to improve the quality of his stock and increase the number of flocks and herds?

Read V31:1-21. What direction did God give Jacob in V3. How did he persuade Leah and Rachel for this matter? How did they respond? How did Jacob attempt to deceive Laban? Why did he flee in this way? Why did Rachel steal her father’s gods?

Read V22- 37. When Laban caught up with Jacob, why did he not harm him? How did he rebuke Jacob? How did Jacob explain his sudden departure and the stolen gods? When Laban’s search for the gods proved fruitless, how did Jacob rebuke him?

Read V36-55. Describe the treaty which they made at their parting. What do these events reveal about Jacob’s character. What do these events teach us about God?
