Question

Matthew

The Stone The Builders Rejected

Matthew 21:42-46

Key verse 21:42

Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? “

Read verse 42.  What Scripture did Jesus quote (footnote b.)?  What does it mean that Jesus is the stone the builders rejected?  How has Jesus become the capstone?  Think about the words, “The Lord has done this...”.  What can we learn about the way of salvation (Psalm118:21b)?  What ought to be our response to what the Lord has done?

Read verses 43-45.  Who was the kingdom of God taken from?  What kind of people is it given to (Mt 21:34)?  What happens to those who fall on the capstone?  What happens to those on whom it falls?  What is the difference between being broken to pieces and being crushed?

Read verse 46.  What shows that Jesus’ words about the religious leaders was correct?  What warning can we take?
