The Most Important Commandment
Matthew 22:34-40
Key verse 22:37
Jesus replied, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.'—(Deuteronomy 6:5) This is the first and most important commandment."
Read verses 34-37. Why did the Pharisees get “together” to question Jesus? What question did one of them ask? In what way was this question hard to answer?
Read verses 37-38. How did Jesus answer the hard question that was asked? Why do you think the most important commandment has to do with “love”? Why is it important to love the Lord God with “all” your heart, soul and mind? How can we do so?
Read verses 39-40. How is the second most important commandment related to the first? Why is the first, “first” and the second, “second”? Why is it that the rest of the bible is based on these two commandments?
