2017 India June Disciples Conference Report

“’Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” (Ex. 19:5-6)

We thank and praise God for blessing our June Disciples Conference abundantly. This year we held our conference at Sattal which is located at the foot of Himalayan Mountain from June 16-18. 61 members travelled 8 hours by train and after that again one hour by car and reached the conference venue, YMCA Sattal camp. The temperature was around 19 degree centigrade and comparing with 43 degree in New Delhi, it was 24 degree lower and we even felt a little cold. It was surrounded by mountains and in the middle there was a lake. Every participants could feel joyful heart because it was so beautiful and cool.

The theme of this conference was “A Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation” based on Exodus 19:5-6. We intensively studied Exodus by dividing it into 8 lectures. One of the special facts of this conference was that 8 speakers all delivered graceful and heart-moving messages. I think it was God’s grace by accepting the speakers’ two months’ rehearsal training and prayer meeting in one spirit.

Sh Peter delivered opening message gracefully with Ex 2:1-15 “The Birth of Moses.” He stressed that God had deep concern on the Israelites though outwardly they were continuously suffering under Pharaoh’s harsh ruling. He testified that God also has deep concern on India though 97 % of people are suffering under idol worshiping. Then Dr. Timothy Chang delivered main lecture 1 with the word Ex.3:1-4:31 “I will rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians.” He emphasized that God showed his concern on the Israelites by calling one man Moses and training him as a leader of Israelites. He stressed that God has called each of us too as leaders of this nation to save 1.3 billion people. He testified how a newspaper delivery boy like him due to poverty could become a tenured professor of IIIT when he accepted God’s calling. In the evening, Sh Active delivered the message “The Passover” based on Ex 12:1-13:16. He stressed the grace of God who delivered his people Israelites from slavery life by helping them to attach the blood of lamb at the door post when God judged Egypt. He emphasized the importance of believing Jesus’ blood for our salvation nowadays.

The second day’s morning devotion hour messenger was Sh James. He delivered a powerful message with the title “The Lord opened a way through the Red Sea. (Ex. 13:17-15:21) He came to UBF 29 years ago and kept his faith continuously. However, he suffered many times due to his job problem. However, when he lived by faith by holding God’s word firmly, 6 months before God helped him to cross the Red Sea like job problem by granting him a suitable and stable job. Now he decided to challenge the Red Sea like disciple raising ministry as well. Many disciples received much grace through his message and could restore challenging spirit against Red Sea like problems lying in front of each of them. Dr. John Angam delivered main lecture 2 with the title of “A Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation. (Ex 19:1-25)” He testified that the purpose of God’s rescuing slave mentality Israelites is to mold them and raise them as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation for the whole world. His message reminded us of our identity as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. We decide to do the duty of priests faithfully through one to one Bible study. In the evening, Sh Thumra delivered message about “Ten Commandments” (Ex 20:1-28). He stressed that as a kingdom of priests we must keep the law of heavenly kingdom in mind and obey it practically.

On the third day morning, Sh Andrew delivered message “I will rain down bread from heaven for you” (Ex. 15:22-16:36) He is working at call center at night, so he struggled hard to overcome his tiredness and prepared a graceful message. He stressed the importance of eating spiritual daily bread early in the morning. He himself repented of his neglecting eating daily bread and newly decided to eat regularly. The third main lecture was delivered by Dr. Samuel with the title “The Blood of the Covenant” (Ex 23:20-24:18) He emphasized the importance of remembering the blood of covenant and keeping the grace of God in mind and giving thanks to God in our daily life.

During this conference we have raised up one shepherd Yash (DU North) and one shepherd candidate Biman (JNU). Both of them were from Hindu family background but they were changed into men of faith and sources of blessings. Indian missionary to Russia Sh Mark Hungyo delivered his mission report for one year in Uzbekistan and one year in Iraq and now new mission vision to Russia. He will study Bible intensively for two months in India and will go to Moscow in August this year.

After the conference, we had boating fellowship because there was a lake just below the venue. All brothers and sisters enjoyed the boating and also cool weather and fresh air which they could never experience in New Delhi.

We thank God for blessing our disciples’ conference with the word of Exodus. I pray each of us may live practically as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation by serving campus students through one to one.

Thank you for your prayer for India June Disciples’ Conference.

In Christ,

Jimmy Lee
