| Genesis 27:1-29 | Thursday, March 18 |
1. Rebekah quickly acts by faith (1-17).
Isaac was becoming old, blind, and senile. Out of his favoritism, he wanted to bless Esau to be the covenant son. Esau did not deserve it (26:34-35). Moreover, Rebekah believed God's word that Jacob would rule over his brother. When Isaac was weak in spiritual judgment, she helped him do what pleased God. She urgently instructed Jacob to obtain the blessing by any means. By faith, she was willing to take the risk and accept any consequences in helping Jacob receive God's blessing.
2. Isaac blesses Jacob (18-29).
When Jacob arrived, Isaac sensed he was not Esau, but Jacob. Yet he was deceived by the faux hairy hands and blessed him. Isaac blessed Jacob with richness and abundance of harvest. Moreover, Isaac blessed Jacob to rule over nations and his brothers and to receive God's protection. God would honor Isaac's blessing.
