We praise and thank God for his amazing grace for bringing our family to Chicago so that we could receive much love and blessing from God¡¯s servants. We had been praying for refreshment and rest to restore our weak health and exhausted bodies caused by the severe cold weather and the polluted air of Mongolia where we had been living for many years. Then God opened the door for us to take rest at the most proper time with the help of God¡¯s servants-Dr. John Jun, M Mark Yang, Dr. Paul Hong and Sh Samuel H. Lee. I want to share about God¡¯s grace that I received during our stay in Chicago.
First, although we came to Chicago early December, the Chicago weather was not cold and it was like pleasant fall weather compared to the colder Mongolia. We were also happy to see the beautiful tree filled landscape of Chicago. Wherever we went we could see wildlife, birds, flowers, and so much beauty which made us feel like paradise. Due to the cleaner air in Chicago M Maria¡¯s skin was healed quickly and she became healthy.
Second, we grew through Bible studies. We learned God¡¯s heart and the attitude and vision of great spiritual leaders through studying the book of Samuel with M Mark Yang. We also learned about the faith and hope of the gospel truth through Romans study with M Anna Yang. We thank God that through our Samuel and Romans Bible study we could set the direction of how to serve growing Mongolian shepherds when we return. Over several months we memorized and wrote testimonies on 8 chapters in Romans. Through this God¡¯s words were engraved on our hearts and could find the secret joy that comes through Bible memorization. Besides this we also studied Luke¡¯s gospel Sunday passages with M David Choi (for M Matthew) and with M Pauline Moon (for M Maria Lim) for 7 months. We had wonderful spiritual fellowship with precious servants of God. We learned from their faith as they loved and served us so preciously.
Thirdly, we especially want to thank God for the meticulous serving and overflowing love from God¡¯s servants like Mother Barry, Dr. John Jun, M Mark & M Anna Yang, M Jose & Maria Ahn, M David Choi and M Rebecca Choi. We felt like princes and princesses. Every Saturday Mother Barry served us lunch and it was such a blessing to share fellowship with her and learn from her faith and love. Countless missionaries invited us and served us with delicious food. We could have fellowship with them and learn their faith, mission experiences, their pain, vision, and their practical life. I thank God that we could make friends and prayer co-workers even with those whom we didn¡¯t know before. We got to know and be blessed by many who serve the work of God namelessly behind the scene. Especially I want to thank God that we could come to have God¡¯s direction and specific prayer for 2nd generation missionaries. Our children Daniel and Joy just began their teenage lives and we were lacking in wisdom and experience on how to raise them well. However we received great advice through many missionaries as they shared their experiences and wisdom with us. Thank God for that!
Fourth, we thank God for all the people like Anna Yang that helped us with transportation for things like getting groceries since we had no car, Theresa Ahn, Pauline Moon, Blessing Lee & Rebecca Choi, and M Theresa Ahn served us a lot to get our children to school and to get their report cards. Daniel and Joy greatly improved their English and had a priceless experience in Chicago.
Fifth, I¡¯m thankful for the passion and vision that I learned from my stay at the Chicago UBF. Chicago co-workers are so faithful to raise up intercessory prayers for missionaries scattered around the world especially for those who deliver God¡¯s word and are sick. I learned the importance of prayer and of seeing God¡¯s vision for the world. It was also a blessing for our family to join the NEIU fellowship and to have the privilege to pray for NEIU ministry.
Sixth, by God¡¯s provision our family had the privilege to travel around the east and west coasts of America. God enabled us to see vast and fertile land of America. In our travels I thought about the God of America who blessed America so much. I realized how important it is that this blessed America may become a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. For this I should pray for young American intellectuals that they may be transformed through God¡¯s words and be sent out as missionaries.
I met many sacrificial missionaries in Toledo, Lincoln Park, N.Y., Washington, and LA through our visiting and had spiritual fellowship with them as we shared prayer topics. Thank God that our cords of prayer became very long.
Finally we thank God for granting us rest we needed and for strengthening us in every way. I received an abundance love and serving from God¡¯s servants in Chicago beginning with Dr. John Jun during our 7 months time. I pray that we may give back to Mongolian students what we received in Chicago.
