The First Niagara Falls Conference Commemoration Service
After the GIMNET conference Dr. John Jun and other conference attendants and Canadian coworkers totaling around 40 had a commemoration service for the First Niagara Fall Conference which was held in 1975. That first conference opened a new era for North American mission in UBF. In 1970 Dr. Lee gave us a prayer topic, "Let us have a Niagara Falls Conference with 200 members within 10 years!" This was a fantastic prayer topic but seemed impossible to achieve: First of all Korea was supposed to be a missionary receiving country while the U.S.A and Canada were missionary sending countries. Next, at that time we just began to send out several medical doctor and nurse missionaries at best. When can we send so many missionaries to North America to have a conference? When would they raise local shepherds to be 200 to have a conference? It looked like a mission impossible! However we earnestly prayed day and night with this prayer topic. Then five years earlier than our goal, in 1975 God blessed our prayers to hold the First Niagara Falls Conference in Brock University of Canada, near Niagara Falls.
M. Jacob Lee presided over the commemoration service. M. Isaac Kim, Isaac Choi, Luke Hong prayed. Dr. John Jun renewed our world mission spirit with Matthew 28:19 to go and make disciples of all nations! Several coworkers; Jose Ahn, Sarah Lee of Toronto, Dr. Joseph Chung, Jacob Lee, Peter Yoon and Rebekah Choi who had attended the Niagara Falls Conferences in 1970s shared their experiences of God's mighty work with excitement and amazement. We all knelt down on the floor and praised and thanked God for his mighty work during the last 40 years in USA and Canada to have 111 UBF chapters (92 USA, 19 Canada) with 903 missionaries (763 USA and 140 Canada) as of August 15, 2009. May God raise 1,000 Ph.D. shepherds and pioneer 561 USA campuses and 250 Canadian campuses in our generation.
