Indonesia Short-term Missionary Report by Chris Sherrill (Shippensburg)

Indonesia Mission Report

Matthew 28:19 ¡°Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit¡±

The chapter leaders in Jakarta are Peter Kim and his wife Rebecca. Shim Inray and Henkey from Indonesia, who will be expecting their first child this year, are also leaders in the ministry. I am thankful for all their support and continued help during my stay.

My trip began with a day-long delay at JFK but I'm thankful for the opportunity the delay gave me to visit Samuel Shin and the Columbia chapter in New York. Upon arriving to Indonesia I was welcomed warmly by the Jakarta chapter with lathes of flowers and many questions about how I came to know God.

During my stay in Jakarta I'm primarily teaching English. I'm teaching English as a tutor for two young Korean students who are also learning Indonesian. Another class I'm teaching meets twice a week. Some of the ladies are not Christians so in order to keep their interest in the class, I made a deal with them. The deal was that I would teach from the Bible for the first half of class and for the second half I would teach real world applications, like how to speak to your child¡¯s teacher. Next week's class will be the second part of Genesis 1 and how to shop at the mall. My prayer for the ladies in this class is that they can come with an open heart and that a small seed of God's word can be planted.

I'm also leading a English study for UBF students. We studied from Genesis chapter 1. We focused on words like create, separate, light. cover, and days of the week. I pray that the English/Bible study can help the students grow in faith. May they have a better understanding of God¡¯s creation and his great power.

Peter Kim brought me to a house and piece of land that Jakarta UBF is looking to purchase to make a spiritual training ground for their young people. The land is peaceful and the inside of the house is elegant. I was honored to see the future direction of Jakarta UBF.

I attended the Sunday worship service at the Bible center. The message was from Genesis 1:1-2:3 and was delivered by Henkey who I'm staying with. The attendance was 26 and the worship was upbeat and lively with a guitar, piano, violin and cello ensemble. I was also asked to give my life testimony. After the Sunday service we had lunch and then I was asked to lead an English group Bible study. I am so thankful for being able to serve the Jakarta chapter and share my testimony.

I am thankful that for the Jakarta chapter, for opening their doors to me and for being so very welcoming. I would like to thank you all back home for your support and most importantly I want to thank God for this amazing privilege and for enabling me to go out and help make disciples of all nations.
