Milwaukee UBF 1 Resurrection Conf. Report by M. Paul Dang

¡°For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.¡± (1Co 15:3,4)

Praise and thank God who blessed our Resurrection Conference at the UWM Union and the UBF Bible House. We studied 1 Corinthians 15 and the total number of attendants including partial attendants was 34. The title of the conference was ¡°The Resurrection of Christ.¡±

On Friday evening Dr. Timothy Chun served an opening message with the title ¡°I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection¡± based on Philippians 3:10. After the opening message John Dang delivered a message with the title ¡°It is finished¡± based on John 19:16b-42. He said, ¡°Jesus died to finish the work of atonement for us. Jesus was punished so that we might be forgiven. Jesus was wounded so that we might be healed.¡± After the message Amy Becker shared her life testimony based on Galatians 2:20, testifying to God¡¯s grace who changed her from a sinner to a new creation. She prayed that she might be a pipeline unclogged for Christ.

Saturday morning we had the first group Bible study on ¡°The Resurrection of Christ¡± (1Co 15:1-11). They were led by Dr. Timothy Chun, Jodi Brown, and John Dang. After the group Bible study, Abraham Janssen delivered his message, ¡°The Resurrection of Christ.¡± He said, ¡°The resurrection of Jesus shows that God is living. The resurrection of Jesus guarantees us the final victory. The resurrection of Jesus gives us a living hope.¡± While delivering his message, he said that he would change his name to ¡°Nothing¡± because, apart from Christ, he is nothing.

Saturday afternoon, we had the second group Bible study on ¡°The Resurrection of the Dead¡± (1Co 15:12-34). They were led by Chris Cerfus, Rebekah Chun, and Ja Eun Lee. After dinner, Brad Tetzlaff delivered his message with the subtitle ¡°Made alive in Christ,¡± testifying about God¡¯s power that changed him from a slave of computer games to a servant of Christ. After the message, there was a string instrument performance by Ja Eun Lee, John Dang, and John Chun. Cadet Joseph Dang shared a Power Point presentation on God¡¯s work at West Point. Joseph and other cadets have been studying Genesis on Friday nights. May God use him as a source of blessing to other cadets. After the report, Pa Der Ly shared her life testimony based on Ephesians 2:13 testifying about the power of Jesus¡¯ blood that changed her into a new creation and changed her unbelieving father to a believing father. After playing a piano solo, ¡°Grace Alone,¡± Ja Eun Lee testified about God¡¯s grace that has helped her thus far in her dental study and protected her life from armed robbers two weeks ago. May God bless her dental study and make her a dentist missionary. After life testimonies, Rebekah Chun and Naomi Dang shared their vision testimonies. Missionary Rebekah Chun testified about God¡¯s grace that has made her a light for the gentiles. By God¡¯s grace, her husband, Dr. Timothy Chun, got a permanent position as a bridge designer. Through this position he has applied for permanent residency in America. Thank and praise God who opened the way for them to serve his people in the U.S. as lights for the gentiles. Missionary Naomi Dang shared her vision testimony, testifying about God¡¯s grace who has blessed her much more than she ever dreamed of. She prayed about pioneering all the major college campuses in Milwaukee including Marquette and Medical College of Wisconsin in addition to UW-Milwaukee. After the testimonies, our CBF children offered a skit, ¡°Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life.¡± Thank and praise God for our CBF children who participated joyfully in group Bible studies and offered their resurrection skit to the risen Christ. We thank and praise God who enabled Tim and Elizabeth Ralston¡¯s family to join the conference. Tim served the Saturday evening program as a representative prayer servant.

On Sunday morning we had the third group Bible study on ¡°The Resurrection Body.¡± Group Bible studies were served by Dr. Timothy Chun, Amy Becker, and John Dang. After group Bible study, Cedric Brown delivered his message. In his message, he said that we will have a glorious, imperishable, and spiritual body like that of the risen Christ as we get to heaven. He also said that we can have victory over sin and death and Satan through Jesus Christ our Lord. After his message, Chris Cerfus delivered a closing message on John 21. Thank and praise God who answered the prayers of Shepherd Jeff and Grace Cummings and brought him back to Bible study and enabled him to serve this message, ¡°Do you love me?¡± He said that we need to come to Christ, love him, and follow him. In order to follow Jesus, we need to feed Jesus¡¯ sheep as our expression of our love for him.

Thank and praise God who richly blessed our conference. Jesus, who conquered the power of sin and death and Satan, gave us victory. Before and after the conference, lives of some of our members were threatened by armed robbers. On March 5th around 3:30 a.m. Ja Eun Lee, on her way to apartment from library, was robbed at gun point by two men. But God protected her and she came home safely. On March 24th, Paul Jr. and John were threatened by two armed robbers around 9 p.m. Paul had a gun pointed at his chest, but God protected him and John. They came back home safely. Immediately we prayed that the two robbers might be caught. A few hours later we were told by police officers that they were caught. They were 15 year old kids. Through these two armed robberies Satan tried to plant fear in our hearts, but God helped us to conquer fear by faith in the risen Jesus, who conquered the power of sin, death, and Satan. Praise Jesus!

Through all these, I learned people need Jesus. Without Jesus, people are evil and dangerous like the armed robbers. America can be a more dangerous place to live in than Iraq. But with the grace of Jesus, who conquered the power of sin and death, people become new creations. Apart from the grace of Jesus, who died for our sins and rose again, we are worse than nothing. But by the grace of Jesus, we can become new creations, gospel workers and compassionate shepherds. May we dwell in the grace of Jesus and become powerful gospel workers, who can proclaim the gospel of Jesus, and compassionate shepherds like Jesus. May God help the two robbers to repent of their sins and accept Jesus and become new creations like the thief on the cross. May God help us to offer 3,000 times of united prayer for the summer conference. May the love of God be proclaimed, accepted and practiced through all attendants at this conference.
