Korean Layman shepherd Seminar News by Sh. Barnabas Kim

On March 1st, 2008, layman shepherd conference was held in Kwangju Zion center, Korea. The title was ¡°Let¡¯s rebuild the holy temple¡±. 250 layman shepherds joined from all over Korea.

M. Abraham Hwang from Mexico, M Stephen and Elizabeth Kim from Moscow, M Lieutenant Hwang from Toledo and Sh Eric of LA all UBF attended from abroad. Sh. Samuel Lee, director of Korea UBF gave us the opening message and said that our lay men shepherds are the main pillars to support all the missionaries in the world with our prayers. He encouraged us to win the victory at campus mission and at work with this pride and sense of responsibility.

The main lecture was given by Sh Barnabas Kim from Nehemiah chapters one and two. Nehemiah was a warrior of faith. He built the wall of Jerusalem in 52 days, though it was wasted for 140 years. He created the new history to rebuild the Jerusalem temple with tearful prayers, a challenging spirit, and spiritual unity in the midst of deserted reality.

Nowadays Korean society faces many spiritual struggles with materialism and a pleasure seeking life. We could have hope to rebuild the spiritual temple of God again in Korea and all the world campuses as we learned about Nehemiah¡¯s spirit.

Sh David Kim shared ¡°My philosophy and vision as a campus shepherd¡±. He testified about God¡¯s grace from the beginning of his pioneering campus ministry in Seoul. After meeting God while serving the Vietnam War and through intern training, he testified about God¡¯s grace from the beginning of his pioneering Yunhee campus ministry in Seoul until now. He received trainings from God in many ways. Yet he concluded that the ministry that pleases God is to have compassion for one soul and help him to be raised as a disciple of Jesus who has image of Jesus. Afterwards, the layman shepherds watched a video of ¡®UBF early pioneering history¡¯ and learned about the ancestors¡¯ faith and sacrifices. Then we stopped by ¡®UBF history exhibition room¡¯ and had precious time to check how God has led UBF last 48 years through various documents. In the afternoon we visited Pastor Sohn Yang Won memorial house in Yeo Su and had valuable time to learn his martyrdom spirit, forgiving and loving faith.
