Uganda Hospital Construction News Update

We thank God for worldwide prayer support and love for Uganda. I am pleased to share with all of you the current status of the ongoing construction project of the Uganda Hospital.

The structure will be a 6-story building (5 stories above ground and the basement for parking), and each floor space will be about 397m2 (120 pyung).

The 1st floor was originally planned to be divided into two sections, one about 265 m2 (80 pyung) to be used for the clinic, and the other section about 132m2 (40 pyung) for the Makerere UBF center. The 2nd floor was to be used as an internet cafe and a guest house. However, we found that dividing the 1st floor into two sections would be insufficient in accommodating all the incoming medical missionaries. In December 2009, we are expecting Dr. Joseph Chung (pediatrician) from Chicago UBF and in January 2010, M. Ji Hong Bae (ophthalmologist), M. Sung Hye Kim (gynecologist), and a dentist missionary from Kwangju. Thus, we are planning to reallocate the whole 1st floor exclusively for the clinic, and the 2nd floor will be allocated for the Makerere UBF center and the guest house. The building we have at present will be used as an internet café and for lodging. The remaining floors (3rd through the 5th) will be used as a youth hostel.

As far as progress goes, on the 1st floor, the concrete slab was completed on the ground, while the pillars and the slab for the ceiling are underway. Overall, almost ¨ù of the concrete framework of the building is finished. Initially, Sh. Kee Sung Um and Andy Yang (designer and constructor) planned to finish the framework up to the 5th floor and then proceed onto the interior and exterior construction work on the 1st floor as material and money permits. But following this construction plan will leave us with a lack of rooms for the clinic since the framework will be done by the end of June 2010 and the interior and exterior finishing work would continue from then on. Therefore, we are considering doing the interior and exterior work right after finishing the 1st floor structural framework so that the clinic on the 1st floor will be able to open by the end of January 2010 or in the middle of February 2010 at the latest.

I pray that God may continue to bless our hospital building project and provide us all the necessary financial and material means on time so that the building construction may steadily make progress.

In Christ,
Dr. Luke Lim
