¡°Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.¡± (Gen 13:17)
¡°The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.¡± (Lk 10:2)
I thank God for guiding our prayer journey from beginning (August 13) to end (August 26), and giving us his vision for western Canada. We stopped by Lakehead (Thunder Bay), U of Manitoba and U of Winnipeg (Winnipeg), U of Regina, U of Saskatoon, UNBC (Prince George), UBC Okanagan (Kelowna) and UBC (Vancouver) to plant the seeds of prayer in faith that God will send his servants in his time according to our prayer to pioneer every North American campus. Truly, the fields are ripe for harvest – so many students are wandering around these great campuses in need of shepherds. Winnipeg was especially meaningful, since Canadian UBF ministry was born there. Through the faith and suffering of the first Canadian UBF missionaries from Korea, God established the Canadian gospel work. M. Hannah had to choke back tears as she recalled the grace of God who has worked greatly since that time. We went fishing in pairs for new Bible students on the campuses where the three pioneering house churches in Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary, and God enabled us to invite several students. Several growing students went fishing for the first time.
Through fellowship with our coworkers in Western Canada God helped me to appreciate the struggles of lonely house church ministries. The hospitality of each house church was really gracious and joyful. M. Noah and Grace Chang have been pioneering Edmonton for the last year, together with their son David and daughter Deborah. M. Noah prays to be an ark-builder for the salvation of many University of Alberta students. The thing that impressed me most about the Vancouver UBF was the beautiful love and trust relationship between Sh. Patrick, who is growing as the ancestor of faith there, and M. Daniel Kwon, the director. Sh. Patrick is the fruit of the prayer and labour of love of M. Daniel and Anna Kwon for the last 10 years. We joined the Vancouver UBF worship service on August 20, and God mutually encouraged us. They said they considered our time of worship and fellowship together to be their Summer Bible Conference. It was great to see M. Matthew and Ruth Jun and their children again, after sending them out to pioneer U of Calgary 10 months ago. They have been keeping their faith and calling in their new mission field. I thank God for meaningful fellowship with them, through fishing at U of C and soccer fellowship. Overall, I learned the importance of praying for and supporting one another in the context of our prayer to pioneer all Canadian campuses and make Canada a holy nation.
Thank God who helped us to walk through the land and claim it by faith. We came to appreciate the God of Canada more – the enormous prairie skies and farmers' fields like oceans of golden grain; the towering, majestic Rocky mountains which make you feel so small; the dazzling beauty of the Lake Superior shoreline in Northern Ontario all clearly revealed the power and magnificence of the Creator God, who has blessed us to live in this wonderful nation. As the national anthem says, our land is glorious and free. May God help Canadians to be free from the power of sin, so they may glorify God.
There were so many things that could go wrong on this kind of road trip (we traveled 10,500 km or 6,510 miles in total). It was hard to maintain unity in a group of 17 people with diverse expectations and interests. My sinful nature was revealed in several ways, especially my selfishness. But we went by faith, and God's protection was clearly with us. May God help us to remember our coworkers in lonely mission fields through prayer. May God help us to give our hearts to discipleship ministry all the more and to send out harvest workers into the ripe harvest fields until Canada becomes a holy nation again.
